Remember Wednesday is a new music meme that I’m really excited to be participating in. Click the link to read all about it & make sure you play along next week, too!

My song for the week is White Wedding, by Billy Idol. I got married for the first time right around the time this song was popular. I was very young, just barely 18 and very idealistic about life and love and everything else, too, and when I heard this song at the club we all used to go to (Colorado had 3.2 beer pubs for 18 year olds at the time) I thought it was written just for me. I never really caught the sadness of the song until my later years, after that marriage was long over, along with a couple more. Hearing it still takes me back to those days, when I was 18 and starting my adult life. Here’s the song & the lyrics, if you’ve never read them before:

White Wedding

Hey little sister what have you done
Hey little sister who’s the only one
Hey little sister who’s your superman
Hey little sister who’s the one you want
Hey little sister shot gun!

It’s a nice day to start again
It’s a nice day for a white wedding
It’s a nice day to start again.

Hey little sister what have you done
Hey little sister who’s the only one
I’ve been away for so long (so long)
I’ve been away for so long (so long)
I let you go for so long

It’s a nice day to start again (come on)
It’s a nice day for a white wedding
It’s a nice day to start again.

Take me back home
There is nothin’ fair in this world
There is nothin’ safe in this world
And there’s nothin’ sure in this world
And there’s nothin’ pure in this world
Look for something left in this world
Start again
Come on

It’s a nice day for a white wedding
It’s a nice day to start again.
It’s a nice day for a white wedding
It’s a nice day to start again.

Caffeinate me!

Gotta love those songs that you don’t even understand until after the fact!
